Core Facility Spotlight: Flow Cytometry
and Cell Separation Facility
The Bindley Bioscience Flow Cytometry and Cell Separation Facility
provides advanced cell and particle analysis and sorting using flow cytometry based technology. The facility also provides training in flow cytometry
analysis and sorting techniques, as well as expert consultation for assay and
protocol development for flow cytometry analysis and cell separation.
The facility features the following instruments:
; BD FACS Aria III Cell Sorter for state of the art, 5-laser, 14-color,
16-parameter, high-speed cell sorting with temperature control that
is housed in a BSL- 2 biosafety cabinet. It is capable of 2-way, 4-way
and single cell sorting.
; BD Fortessa LSR flow cytometry cell analyzer with the same 5-laser
setup as the ARIA cell sorter, with 18-color detection and a high
throughput microwell sample uptake system.
; Beckman Coulter FC500 flow cytometry analyzer with two laser
excitation that can measure up to 5 colors simultaneously. This
cytometer runs samples in 96 well plates or 12x75 tubes.
Flow Cytometry staff have expertise in the following areas:
; Advanced flow cytometry acquisition and data analysis including DNA cell cycle,
immunophenotyping and phospho-protein detection
; Very high speed, temperature controlled, sorting of sterile, live, and rare cell
; Instrument training
; FCS Express, FlowJo, and ModFitLt software packages
; Expert consultation for assay or protocol development
; Expert consultation and input for grant proposals and manuscripts

a meeting to discuss project needs and estimate costs. All new applications should be
discussed with the Flow Cytometry Core staff before scheduling the experiment. Laboratory training and training on the instrument is also required. For more information,
